An unbelievable and touching story of a dog from Irpin whose photo became viral

A photo of a huge black dog from the occupied and ruined Irpin, who rushed to the Ukrainian soldier, became viral all over the world. The author of this picture is famous Gleb Garanich. And the dog was found by soldiers of the 72nd brigade.

Famous Ukrainian showman Serhiy Prytula told the story of the dog on his page in one of the social networks.

A Giant Schnauzer was found in a closed apartment on March 29 by soldiers of the 72nd brigade. The dog’s house was hit by shelling. On the table there were documents that indicated the dog’s breed, age and name — Bavaria. The photo of this dog, which hugs a military man with its paws, was made both by foreign journalists and a Ukrainian photojournalist Gleb Garanich.

The picture quickly became viral on social networks, then appeared on Twitter and spread to foreign newspapers and even to the United States.

Meanwhile, the dog was taken to the volunteer’s headquarter, where she spent the night. And then the volunteer Olya Veretelnik took the animal to her home. And three days later, the owner of Bavaria Tatyana called Olga. She evacuated with her family to Rivne region amd by chance saw the dog’s photo in a social network.

It turned out that the dog’s name is actually Zara. The family simply did not manage to evacuate her, as seven of them escaped from under shelling in one car from Irpin. Zara simply did not fit into the car.

However, the family asked their neighbor to take care of Zara. But he was beaten by the creatures who wanted to get into the apartment. Fortunately the man survived but is now in the hospital. Therefore, Zara remaned alone in a closed apartment.

«She spent several weeks alone in a closed apartment. Zara ate what she could find. Fortunately a couple of days before the war started her owners bought a pack of food and left it open,» Prytula added.

Volunteer Olya passed Bavaria to those volunteers who were returning to Rivne from Kyiv. The dog went to his family and in the evening they sent a picture of their happy reunion.

Zara’s owners thanked the volunteers for taking care of her and for being able to return the dog to her family.
